Venice
Centuries of application of rules of good government.
Often I return to Venice to the search of our origins. And to the search of what remains today for centuries of application of rules of good government.
Why if you desire to enter and visit a museum you must pay the ticket of entry? Why do you accept to pay the entry to the museum as if this were a normal behavior?
Contrarily, would you accept to pay a tax of entrance to visit a city of art? I set the question, but I am not interested to your answer. I believe that whoever to visit a city of art should pay a tax to destine to the maintenance of the city.
To whoever objected that this tax would discourage the tourism, I respond that I am not of this opinion. Many visitors non pay the entry in the city, they provoke the degrade of the city.
Surely a lot of economic initiatives earn from the elevated influx of tourists in the city. Nevertheless the difference among the damage provoked to the city, and the profit realized by some, won't be positive for the city.
Some will sustain that in this way the flow of the tourism would divert. I don't have difficulty to think that this worry is founded. I believe that the introduction of a tax to visit the city selects the quality of the visitor and doesn't reduce the tourist interest of the city of art.
The city must not adjust itself to the elevated number of the tourists and, contrarily, the tourist operators should convert their activity.
Nothing prevents that the price of tax is established toward that tourists that belong to serious groups of study. It must not be the group to visit the city. It is enough that a member of a group completes the visit. The distinction of age must not influence for belonging to the group and it is enough that the group is deserving to be considered.
In this way the cities of art would be reserved to respectful tourists of the place and to the citizens that live in the city.
No restriction for anybody. I only recommend the respect for what a city of art represents today, and it must keep on representing. The city of art belongs to the future generations, in addition to us that today we intend to respect the city.
